Polytec NIR process spectrophotometers
Basic components
The basic components are:
- An analyzer equipped with a diffraction grating monochromator and high-resolution diode array, ensuring fast and precise measurements (range from 850 nm to 2200 nm).
- An optional multiplexing unit to connect multiple probes to a single analyzer (spectrophotometer), allowing control of different points in the production process (< 100 m).
- A wide range of probes and accessories enabling measurements in reflection or transmission, either in contact or at a distance, for liquid, solid, paste, compact, or granular products.
Each probe can monitor a point in the process and control one or more parameters:
- Non-contact reflection measurements
- Contact reflection measurements
- Measurements within and through the sample
Sectors of application
Common uses of application
Common uses of quantitative applications include:
- Monitoring the drying process (amount of water detected in the product), in order to ensure consistent production and energy savings by automatically adjusting the conveyor belt speed or oven temperature.
- Determining thickness in the case of transparent materials (e.g., coatings).
- In-line control of particle size during pigment grinding, enabling process optimization and energy savings.
- Quality control of heterogeneous bulk materials such as gypsum (moisture) and animal feed (moisture, fat, protein, etc.).
In general, NIR systems can also be used for qualitative applications, where the analysis can distinguish between acceptable and non-acceptable products without necessarily identifying the root cause.
